Is CGTV a Scam? What Parents Need to Know
Adrian R’Mante has been involved in many acting scams. Some of them go by ACT, Celebrity Actors Camp, The Celebrity Experience and CGTV. All of these companies have left a trail of complaints across websites and social media since 2010. CGTV in particular has created the most controversy with it's high pressure sales and pay-to-play business model.
Common Promises and Red Flags
Common red flags in the industry include paying upfront for representation, high-pressure sales tactics, and guarantees of stardom.
Upfront Fees
CGTV charges thousands of dollars in upfront fees. Legit companies make money only when you do (commission). Be wary of high upfront fees for classes, camps, photos, or promises of representation.
High-Pressure Sales
It has been reported that CGTV representatives pressure you to sign a contract immediately. CGTV has a non refundable registration fee of $1,000 in their contracts. This has created a lot of controversy and is in fact illegal in California.
High Callback Rates
CGTV reports an 80% success rate in getting participants called back by industry agents/managers. There are many testimonials online from past participants that claim these callbacks don't result in representation or real auditions. In fact these industry people are paid to attend and not allowed to return to CGTV unless they hand out a minimum of 15 callbacks regardless of the performers talent.
"Scout" Locations
CGTV is known to use Talent Scouts in non-industry locations like shopping malls or, in some cases, Target and Walmart stores. These "Scouts" hand you a card and invite you to an audition to meet R'Mante and prey on your family to attend a seminar and try to sell you packages that cost thousands of dollars.
